Chuck Browning

Chuck Browning was unanimously elected by the UAW International Executive Board to serve as Vice President and Director of the Ford Department on June 28, 2021, to fill the vacancy created by VP Gerald Kariem's retirement. Browning officially assumed the position on July 1, 2021. His assignments include Ford, Agricultural Implement, and Chaplaincy.
Browning had served as Director of UAW Region 1A after being elected at the 37th Constitutional Convention in June 2018. UAW Region 1A covers most of Wayne County, Michigan (including part of Detroit), Monroe County, and Washtenaw County, and extends to the Ohio border.
Browning served as Top Administrative Assistant to the President from 2014 to 2018 and as an Administrative Assistant to the President from 2010 to 2014.
Browning was appointed to the staff in 2000 by UAW President Stephen P. Yokich as an International representative and assigned to the union's Ford Department where he performed various duties.
While serving as an international representative, coordinator, assistant director, and administrative assistant, his responsibilities included collective bargaining, contract administration, and oversight of various departments under the jurisdiction of the vice president of the union's Ford Department.
Browning joined the UAW in 1987 and became a member of Local 3000 when he went to work at the Mazda Plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. He held various positions that included committeeman, bargaining committee, and plant chairman. During his tenure as chairman, the membership transitioned to representation under the UAW-Ford National agreement.
Born and raised in Downriver Michigan, he married his wife Leslie in 1983. They have three children together (Elizabeth, Andrew, and Rebecca) and two grandsons named Lude and Tucker.
