Getting started with HAP: member functions and utilization

Welcome to HAP! We are here to help you make the most of your health benefits. Here’s a guide to understanding key member functions, including registering on the HAP member portal, finding a doctor, continuity of care, prior authorizations, and drug coverage.

Register at hap.org

To access your health plan information online, follow these steps to register on the HAP member portal:

  1. Visit hap.org: Click “Login” and then select “Member.”
  2. Enter your information: Complete the registration process to create your account.

Once registered, you can:

  • View your claims and Explanation of Benefits (EOBs)
  • Access your ID card or request a replacement
  • Review your benefits and prior authorizations
  • Obtain member forms and plan documents
  • Learn about HAP’s care management & health and well-being programs
  • Change your primary care physician (PCP)

Finding a doctor

Selecting the right doctor is crucial for your healthcare journey:

  • Visit our Find A Doctor page: Use this tool to search for and confirm your PCP.
  • HMO members: A PCP is required. If you do not select one during enrollment, HAP will auto-assign a PCP, which you can change later by logging into hap.org.
  • PPO/EPO members: A PCP is not required, but it is recommended for coordinated care.

Continuity of care and prior authorizations

HAP’s continuity of care program ensures you can continue receiving medical care from your current provider in certain situations:

  • Active treatment plans: If you are undergoing treatment for conditions like cancer, pregnancy in the second and third trimester, or post-surgical care, you may continue with your current provider with approval. Contact Customer Service at (800) 422-4641 (TTY: 711) to begin the process. Your provider must complete a Continuity of Care form. You can download the form here. Your provider must email the completed form to Continuityofcare@hap.org
  • Prior authorizations: If you had procedures or services approved by your previous insurance, ask your doctor to submit a prior authorization form to HAP before further services are performed. This includes:
    • Imaging (CT scans/MRI). Must be submitted on the continuity of care form - if they are submitted as a prior authorization, the request will be rerouted to eviCore/Turning Point.
    • Ongoing scheduled treatments (injections, cancer treatment)
    • Previously scheduled surgery that will require authorization with HAP

For more information, visit our referals and authorizations page.

Drug coverage

Managing your medications is easy with HAP:

  • Visit our prescription drug page: Confirm if your medication is covered, its tier and if it requires prior authorization.
  • Search covered drugs: Use the “Search 2025 Small Business/Individual Plan drugs” button for small group and individual plans, or the “Search Commercial Group Plan drugs” button for large group plans.
  • Home-delivery pharmacy service: Pharmacy Advantage offers free home delivery for new or current prescriptions. Visit hap.org/prescription-drug/home-delivery or call (800) 456-2112 (TTY: 711) for more details.
