The Metro Detroit Association of Health Underwriters (MDAHU) held its Annual VIP Reception and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 10, at the Wyndham Garden Hotel and Conference Center in Sterling Heights, Michigan. The event recognized outstanding members and corporate sponsors who have gone above and beyond in their support of MDAHU and the agent community.
The Capitol Award was presented to one individual member and one agency who have excelled in furthering the legislative priorities and goals of MDAHU and NAHU. Awards were presented to Anthony Fracchia of Altruis Benefit Consulting, for individual service and Health Alliance Administrators for agency support.
The 2017 Spirit of Community Award was presented to Kariem Cade of Great Lakes Employees Benefits, in recognition of his volunteerism with community-based causes. Cade has served on the local board of directors for Playworks, a nationwide organized which support at-risk youth throughout Metro Detroit.
Three MDAHU members were recognized for their lifetime of service to the organization and the insurance community. The Spirit of Metro Detroit Award was presented to Catherine Cooper of Health Alliance Administrators, Michelle Howard of Health Alliance Plan and James Milkey of Professional Benefit Planners.
The ceremony ended with presentation of the Rookie of the Year Award being presented to Garrett Simonis of Plan IV Insurance Agency. This award recognizes the participation in industry initiatives and community service by MDAHU members with less than five years in the industry.
“We are extremely fortunate to have such dedicated members,” stated MDAHU President Amy Purcilly. “The efforts of all of our members in Metro Detroit continue to further the insurance industry and support the community we serve.” Her thoughts were echoed by NAHU CEO Janet Trautwein and NAHU President James Stanger, who both assisted in the awards presentation.
The National Association of Health Underwriters represents 100,000 professional health insurance agents and brokers who provide insurance for millions of Americans. The Metro Detroit AHU serves health insurance professionals and consumers of Southeastern Michigan with over 500 members.
