Due to across the country shortages for over the counter (OTC) items, HAP Medicare members may experience order limits or not be able to order items as part of their OTC benefit. HAP is extending the 2nd quarter allowance usage thru 9/30/2020.

Using your quarterly over-the-counter benefit

Many HAP Medicare Advantage plans include an over-the-counter benefit, also known as OTC. This benefit lets you purchase over-the-counter medications you may need using an allowance.

Each quarter, you get a stipend to spend on hundreds of OTC items from our product catalog. The allowance amount is based on your plan.

You can use this benefit to purchase items such as:

  • Allergy, cold, flu and sinus medications
  • Antacids and acid reducers
  • Pain relievers and fever reducers
  • Dental and denture care
  • Personal care
  • Diabetes supplies
  • First aid and medical supplies
  • Vitamins and minerals 

Visit our Important forms and documents section and click “Summary of Benefits” to find the SOB for your plan. Your specific dollar amount can be found under the “Additional Covered Benefits” section of the Summary of Benefits.

How to order

Ordering is quick, easy and convenient. We offer three ways for our members to order over-the-counter products. No matter which way you order, your items will be shipped directly to your door.

NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 crisis, we recommend you order online. The website has the most up-to-date listing of items that can be ordered. Printed catalogs aren’t being updated. 
HAP is extending 2nd quarter allowances through Sept. 30, 2020. To use any unused 2nd quarter allowance, please order your OTC supplies over the phone (844)-427-6821 TTY (711), Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 11 p.m. ET.

Shop our online product catalog 24/7. You’ll need to register and create an account if it’s your first visit to the store.

Order by phone

Speak with an OTC advocate Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. EST by calling 1-844-427-6821 (TTY: 711). Our advocates can help answer any questions you might have and assist you with placing your order.

Order by mail

If you’d like to order by mail, please write a note on your order form stating you’re using both 2nd and 3rd quarter allowances.

Browsing the product catalogs

Product catalogs are based on your plan type and the quarterly dollar amount assigned to that plan. Find your plan type below to see which items are available for purchase. You can also use our online store by logging into our secure member portal and clicking “Over-the-Counter Benefit Catalog” in the “Quick Links” section.

You’ll need to register to use the store. Have your member ID card handy as you’ll need it during the process.

Common questions about the over-the-counter benefit

I didn’t use my quarterly allowance – can I get an extension?

Starting July 1, HAP is extending the 2nd quarter allowance. To use this allowance, you’ll need to call (844) 427-6821, Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-11 p.m. ET. You can use your 2nd quarter allowance through Sept. 30, 2020.

I’ve called and tried to order items, but they seem to be on backorder – do you know when they’ll be back in stock?

COVID-19 has created shortages on many popular items. We’re working closely with our OTC vendor and they’ve advised us that calling or viewing the catalog online will give you the most up to date items.

Can I still order items through the mail and use my extended allowance?

Yes. You can still order by mail. If you want to use your 2nd and 3rd quarter allowances– you’ll need to write a note on your order form stating that you’re using both 2nd and 3rd quarter allowances.

How long will it take to get my order?

For delivery, please allow 7 to 10 business days from the time your order is placed.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, there may be a delay in delivery, but orders will ship as soon as possible. You can track your order by logging into otc.hap.org.

Can I pay for extra items if I use my full dollar amount?

No. Your order total may not exceed your benefit amount. Cash, checks, credit cards or money orders are not accepted.

You must use your full benefit amount in two orders. Unused benefits will not roll over into the next quarter.

Can I purchase items for family members and friends?

No. OTC products are intended for member use only to help with a health or medical need.

Do you accept returns?

No. Due to the personal nature of these products, returns are not accepted.
