Over-the-counter benefit

Many HAP Medicare Advantage plans include an over-the-counter benefit, also known as OTC. This benefit lets you purchase over-the-counter items you may need using an allowance.

Using your quarterly over-the-counter benefit

Each quarter, you get a stipend to spend on hundreds of OTC items from our product catalog. The allowance amount is based on your plan.

You can use this benefit to purchase items such as:

  • Allergy, cold, flu and sinus medications
  • Antacids and acid reducers
  • Pain relievers and fever reducers
  • Dental and denture care
  • Personal care
  • Diabetes supplies
  • First aid and medical supplies
  • Vitamins and minerals

How to order in 2021

Ordering is quick, easy and convenient. We offer three ways for our members to order over-the-counter products. No matter which way you order, your items will be shipped directly to your door.

NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 crisis, we recommend you order online. The website has the most up-to-date listing of items that can be ordered. Printed catalogs aren’t being updated.


Browsing the 2021 product catalogs

Product catalogs are based on your plan type and the quarterly dollar amount assigned to that plan. Find your plan type below to see which items are available for purchase. You can also use our online store by logging into our secure member portal and clicking “Over-the-Counter Benefit Catalog” in the “Quick Links” section.

You’ll need to register to use the store. Have your member ID card handy as you’ll need it during the process.

Common questions about the 2021 over-the-counter benefit

I’ve called and tried to order items, but they seem to be on backorder – do you know when they’ll be back in stock?

COVID-19 has created shortages on many popular items. We’re working closely with our OTC vendor and they’ve advised us that calling or viewing the catalog online will give you the most up to date items.

How long will it take to get my order?

For the remainder of 2021, please allow 7 to 10 business days from the time your order is placed. In 2022, HAP will be switching to a new OTC vendor and we are pleased to offer 2 day shipping on most items.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, there may be a delay in delivery, but orders will ship as soon as possible. For the remainder of 2021, you can track your order by logging into the online catalog.

Can I pay for extra items if I use my full dollar amount?

For the remainder of 2021, your order total may not exceed your benefit amount. Cash, checks, credit cards or money orders are not accepted. You must use your full benefit amount in two orders. Unused benefits will not roll over into the next quarter.

Can I purchase items for family members and friends?

No. OTC products are intended for member use only to help with a health or medical need.

Do you accept returns?

No. Due to the personal nature of these products, returns are not accepted.
