You may be eligible if you:
- Are enrolled in an eligible Medicare Advantage plan or have Medicare Part D
- Use a GLP-1 medication for weight loss or maintaining weight loss
- Meet the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program's medical (clinical) criteria
The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program is designed to help eligible members access certain weight loss medications, also known as GLP-1 drugs. This temporary, nationwide pilot program is offered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and runs from July 1, 2026, through December 31, 2027. It's important to know that this program is separate from your Medicare Part D prescription drug plan.
You may be eligible if you:
Note: Pen needles are NOT included.
You'll pay a fixed $50 copay for each prescription filled through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program. This copay is separate from your Medicare Part D prescription drug costs. It does not count toward your Part D deductible or your maximum out-of-pocket (OOP) costs and Extra Help (LIS) does not apply. That means the cost is predictable, but it won't help reduce your other Medicare drug expenses.
Your doctor will determine whether you qualify for the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program. If you qualify, a prior authorization is required before the medication can be covered through the program. Your pharmacy should send claims directly to the Bridge Program instead of your Medicare Part D plan. To process the claim, the pharmacy should use BIN 028918 and PCN MEDDGLP1BR.
For more information on the program, visit the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare GLP-1 Bridge page.
