HAP and Henry Ford Health Launch Employer Plan Focused on Value and Coordinated Care

Members gain access to a high-performing network and lower premium options

TROY, Mich. – Health Alliance Plan (HAP), a Michigan-based nonprofit health plan, and Henry Ford Health, a Detroit-based premier health services company, announced today the launch of Henry Ford Health Select — a new health plan designed to deliver coordinated care and help Michigan businesses manage rising healthcare costs.

This new plan offers rich benefits and covers a wide service area. It is available to small and large employer groups in seven Michigan counties: Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Lapeer, Genesee, Jackson and Washtenaw.

“Henry Ford Health Select represents the next step in delivering on our promise of integrated, affordable, high-quality healthcare,” said Margaret Anderson, president of HAP. “By aligning our plan offerings with Henry Ford Health’s renowned care network, we’re providing Michigan businesses and families with a more streamlined and cost-effective option.”

This employer group plan complements the success of the Henry Ford Health Medicare Advantage plan, powered by HAP, that was announced in 2024. Since launching in January, more than 4,000 people have joined the plan. The pilot program showed that bringing together healthcare services and insurance coverage can lead to better health results. Members in HAP’s Henry Ford Medicare Advantage plan scored 6% higher on key Medicare quality ratings than members in HAP’s other Medicare plans.

“Bringing together the provider and payer sides of healthcare allows us to break down barriers, improve care coordination and focus on what matters most — healthier people and communities. This plan is more than a product; it’s a reflection of our commitment to high value care that prioritizes quality, affordability and equity,” said Robin Damschroder, president of Value-Based Enterprise and chief financial officer at Henry Ford Health.

Henry Ford Health Select provides access to a high-value care network and includes:

  • 15-20% savings on premium costs
  • Access to Henry Ford Health, including more than 9,400 affiliated providers, more than 550 care sites and 13 Henry Ford Health acute care hospitals
  • Comprehensive, coordinated coverage focused on value and better health outcomes
  • Required primary care provider (PCP) assignment and referrals for specialty care to help manage costs and streamline care
  • Ancillary services — including lab, imaging, durable medical equipment, therapy, urgent care and behavioral health — through HAP’s HMO network.

Henry Ford Health Select is structured as a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) and an Exclusive Provider Arrangement (EPA), giving members access to Henry Ford Health’s high-performing network. This network includes doctors, hospitals and specialists chosen for delivering high-quality care at lower costs.

Quoting for employer groups begins in fall 2025, with coverage starting Jan. 1, 2026.

In addition to employer coverage, Henry Ford Health Select will also be available to individuals and families on the Health Insurance Marketplace through HAP CareSource, with coverage starting in 2026.
