HAP Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week With Sweet Surprise and Continued Commitment to Michigan Educators

TROY, Mich. — To celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, Health Alliance Plan (HAP), a Michigan-based nonprofit health plan, found a simple way to say thank you to the educators who give so much. Throughout the week, HAP team members visited public schools across southeast Michigan, delivering more than 2,500 cookies to teachers and support staff. It’s a small gesture, but one that comes with a big message: “We appreciate you”.

“To every educator and school staff member: Thank you for the passion, care and inspiration you bring into classrooms and communities every day,” said Margaret Anderson, interim president and chief marketing officer at HAP. “We are proud to stand beside you — not just during Teacher Appreciation Week, but throughout your career and into retirement.”

A Lasting Commitment to Michigan Educators

Beyond this week’s sweet deliveries, HAP continues to support Michigan’s public school employees through its renewed partnership with the Michigan Public School Employees’ Retirement System, administered by the Michigan Office of Retirement Services (ORS). The contract enables HAP to offer comprehensive health insurance to retired educators and school staff across the state.

Key features of this partnership include:

  • Comprehensive coverage options: HAP offers both pre-65 and Medicare health insurance products, ensuring retirees and their families have the care they need at every stage of life.
  • Deep local experience: As a nonprofit rooted in Michigan, HAP brings decades of health care experience and a deep understanding of the needs of the state's public school systems, including educators and support staff.
  • Extensive provider network: Retirees of the Michigan Public School Employees’ Retirement System will enjoy access to a broad, high-quality network of health care providers, delivering convenience and confidence in care.
  • Collaborative support structure: This initiative, in coordination with ORS, underscores the importance of partnerships in supporting those who served in Michigan’s public schools.
  • Ongoing commitment to excellence: HAP remains dedicated to providing high-quality, accessible care while prioritizing the health and wellness of public school employees and their families.

“Supporting Michigan’s educators is a privilege,” said Anderson. “Whether it’s in the classroom or in retirement, we’re here to make sure their health and well-being are always protected.”

As the appreciation celebration continues, HAP extends its deepest thanks to every teacher, administrator, support professional and staff member. Keep inspiring — your impact lasts a lifetime.
