DETROIT and EAST LANSING – Health Alliance Plan (HAP), a Michigan-based nonprofit health plan, today announced the launch of the HAP MSU-HC Medicare Prime (PPO) plan in partnership with MSU Health Care. This new plan offers expanded coverage options to Medicare-eligible individuals across Michigan in 48 counties and is offered in addition to the HMO option already available.
"Expanding our offerings with MSU Health Care brings our Henry Ford Health and MSU 30-year partnership vision to life," said Margaret Anderson, Interim President and Senior Vice President, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer of HAP. "With our HMO product, we combined a robust network, an annual prepaid benefits Mastercard spending card—a highly sought-after member benefit—and personalized concierge service, all designed to simplify health care navigation. As the market trends toward a PPO preference, we’re building on the success of the HMO offering with the greater flexibility of a PPO Medicare Advantage product."
The HAP MSU-HC Medicare Prime (PPO) plan features the following key benefits:
- $0* monthly premium
- $0 co-pay for primary care provider visits
- $0 medical deductible
- $420 annual allowance on a prepaid benefits Mastercard
- A visitor traveler benefit that extends coverage for members who travel to any of the 49 states outside of Michigan for up to 12 months
- No annual limit on ER coverage worldwide
- Dental benefit with a $2,000 maximum coverage allowance that includes coverage for extractions
- A local dedicated health care navigator
- Access to HAP’s expansive network of providers
The new PPO plan expands on the HAP MSUHC Medicare (HMO) plan in 2022. The HMO plan continues to be offered and in 2025, it includes a $0* premium, no copays on critical preventive services including primary care doctor visits and a $140 quarterly prepaid benefits Mastercard used for a range of essentials, including over-the-counter items, dental, vision, hearing, transportation, and more.
"This new cobranded product reinforces our shared mission of improving access to quality health care," said Seth Ciabotti, CEO for MSU Health Care. "Through our collaboration with HAP, and as part of the historic 30-year partnership between Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University Health Sciences, we are advancing a new standard of health for Michigan residents. Together, we are providing more opportunities for individuals to receive the comprehensive care they need, with a focus on affordability and flexibility in their health care choices."
The Medicare annual enrollment period runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, 2024, with coverage effective January 1, 2025. For more information about the HAP MSU-HC Medicare Prime (PPO) and HAP MSU-HC Medicare (HMO) plans, visit hap.org/msuplans.
