HAP Introduces $0 Medicare Advantage Plan

Plan features Silver&Fit® Exercise & Healthy Aging Program for active seniors

DETROIT – Health Alliance Plan has a $0 premium Medicare Advantage plan available for Medicare beneficiaries, featuring benefits of the Silver&Fit® Exercise & Healthy Aging Program. Medicare open enrollment starts on Oct. 15 and runs through Dec. 7. During this period, many will consider a Medicare Advantage plan when renewing or signing up for Medicare coverage.

Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans can help pay for items not covered by original Medicare offered by the government. Items like dental services, eyeglasses and prescription drugs are typically covered by Medicare Advantage plans and many also cover wellness programs.

"Even if you have a Medicare plan that you like, it doesn't hurt to look at other options with preventative health benefits that can save you money in the long run," said Mike Jakubic, director of Medicare sales and operations for HAP. "For example, HAP's suite of Medicare Advantage plans offer 22 preventative health services. Many are available with our $0 premium plan. That's a win-win for budget conscious, active seniors."

HAP's affordable Medicare Advantage plan features a $0 premium, $0 copay for primary care doctor visits and $0 for Tier 1 preferred generic drugs. It also has a low deductible and first-dollar drug coverage, which means that a member can get their Tier 1 prescriptions for $0 starting on Jan. 1, 2018.

The Silver&Fit Exercise & Healthy Aging Program, provided by American Specialty Health Inc., is a new benefit to keep HAP Medicare Advantage members well. With Silver&Fit, members have the option of using a fitness center, home fitness kit, a mobile app or fitness device for an annual fee of $25 or $50. Dozens of fitness centers are participants, including some Curves and Anytime Fitness locations in many communities across the state.

"We truly care about the wellness and well-being of our members," said Jakubic. "The Silver&Fit program is an affordable exercise program that is great for our members who need to keep active and healthy. The low annual fee of this program is very cost‐effective when you compare it to the annual cost of a standard gym membership."

Individuals who are happy with their existing Medicare plan do not need to make updates; their current plan will automatically renew. However, individuals who are enrolling for the first time or switching Medicare plans must enroll by Dec. 7 to have coverage that will start on Jan. 1, 2018. Individuals who received notice that their current Medicare plans will terminate on Dec. 31 will have until Dec. 31 to select a new plan.
