Strengthen Your Core with These Workouts

A strong core helps you avoid injuries and back pain and improves your posture. These exercises target your core muscles.

Try a V-Up

Watch this video to learn how to do an exercise that challenges your whole core, including your obliques and back muscles.

Number 1Lean back balancing on your sit bones with your arms extended for balance and lift your feet off of the ground so that your thighs and torso make a V.

Number 2Engage your core. Imagine drawing your navel toward your spine.

Number 3 Slowly draw your knees toward your chest before extending them out again. That’s one rep. 4. Do 12-16 reps. Start with 1 set and gradually work up to 3 sets.

Try a side plank

This exercise targets those muscles that are not engaged with regular planks.

Number 1 Lie on the floor on your side with your arm bent and close to your body.

Number 2 Engage your core by drawing your navel toward your spine as you push yourself up, so you’re balanced on your left forearm and the side of your left foot.

Number 3Keep your body in a straight line. Hold this position for a count of 3.

Number 4Do 6-8 reps on each side.

Number 5Start with one set on each side and gradually work up to three sets.

Do ThisAlways check with your doctor before you start any exercise program.
