39th Annual Oak Apple Run is a Runaway Hit

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 39th Annual Oak Apple Run on June 4, benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Oakland County. There were almost 1,500 runners across four races:

  • 10K Race
  • 5K Race
  • 2-mile Fun Run/Walk
  • ¼-mile Kids Run

HAP was a proud sponsor of the event which drew kids, families, couples and groups from ages 3 to 82. It was a great time to get fit together on a beautiful day.

The Orange Strivers met their goal

The HAP Orange Strivers is a group of HAP members who participated in our 5K Challenge training program. The Orange Strivers had 90 registered runners in three of the four races. To help prepare for the race, we held nine weekly meet-up sessions at Rosie’s Park in Madison Heights. Many of the Orange Strivers were running their first 5K, so we cheered as we watched them cross the finish line!

HAP Orange Strivers by the numbers: HAP Orange Strivers at the Oak Apple Run

  • 90 HAP registered runners donned orange jerseys on race day
  • Over 290 HAP members and guests used HAP’s iStrive for Better Health digital wellness manager to get ready for the race
  • Almost 48 million steps logged online, with seven members logging over 1 million steps each! Steps were logged through iStrive for Better Health digital wellness manager or through wearable devices like Fitbit, Garmin, Jawbone, etc.

Special thanks to Michigan Institute for Human Performance staff and Gazelle Sports for coaching our runners during the meetups.
