HAP Announces Date for Moving Southfield Operations to Troy

DeMaria is contractor on new facility

DETROIT  –  Health Alliance Plan, a Detroit-based nonprofit health plan, announced today that its employees will begin moving into the company’s new Troy, Mich., facility on Monday, Nov. 26, a process which should be completed by end of first quarter 2019.

HAP announced in February that it would move its Southfield operations to Troy and would begin relocating employees before the lease on its existing Southfield facility expires in December.

DeMaria has been chosen as the general contractor to renovate the Troy building.  “When we made the decision earlier this year to relocate our Southfield employees by the end of the year, we knew we’d be on an aggressive timeline to make that move,” said Mike Treash, chief operating officer, HAP.  “DeMaria has proven to be the perfect partner to get the Troy facility employee-ready in a short amount of time.  DeMaria brings a great deal of bench strength to this project through its network of subcontractors, which represent a wide variety of labor unions – an important part of HAP’s heritage.”

HAP was founded in 1960 by then-UAW president Walter Reuther and throughout its history has continued to honor its longstanding partnership with Michigan labor.  DeMaria subcontractors working on the Troy facility represent numerous workers’ unions, including the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights Local 687, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Locals 58 and 124, Detroit Plumbers Union Local 98, United Association of Pipefitters Local 636, Sheet Metal Workers Local 80, Sprinkler Fitters Local 704, Glass Workers Local 357, International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators Local 25, and International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Local 1052.

Approximately 1,100 HAP employees and contractors, representing virtually all of HAP’s operational units, will be based at the new facility, which is located at 1414 E. Maple Road, Troy, in Oakland County.

HAP will retain its current facility in Detroit, in close proximity to its parent company, Henry Ford Health System.  HAP will also continue to maintain its facility in Flint, Mich.
