DETROIT – Health Alliance Plan has appointed Elaine Taverna vice president of risk adjustment. In this role, she is responsible for leading the development, refinement and implementation of risk adjustment strategies for HAP. This involves collecting and analyzing member health data in order to determine the cost of providing care, particularly for those with chronic conditions.
An expert in government health programs, Taverna has 22 years of clinical, operations and administrative experience that includes 16 years in the nonprofit sector and 12 years of national consulting experience.
Prior to joining HAP, Taverna was the director of government programs for Henry Ford Health System. At Henry Ford, Taverna led a project to evaluate, design and implement a system‐wide integrated risk adjustment program designed to improve health outcomes for patients and members.
"Elaine has a deep understanding of the important regulations that are part of government programs like Medicare and Medicaid," said Terri Kline, president and CEO, HAP. "She also has a proven track record of designing programs that will allow HAP to improve care for our most vulnerable and chronically ill members, which is at the heart of all we do."
Taverna has a master's degree in health administration from Central Michigan University and a bachelor's degree in social work from Eastern Michigan University. She is a licensed social worker in the State of Michigan and is a resident of Waterford, Mich.
