Former CEO of HealthPlus to lead HAP subsidiary
DETROIT - Health Alliance Plan (HAP) today announced that Michael Genord, M.D., has been named chief executive officer of HAP Midwest Health Plan. Dr. Genord was president and CEO of HealthPlus of Michigan at the time the company merged with HAP in February 2016. Prior to that, he served as chief medical officer of HealthPlus for two years after managing a private practice for 17 years and serving as physician team leader at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich.
Founded in 1993, HAP Midwest is a Michigan domestic non-profit Medicaid/Medicare HMO that became a wholly owned subsidiary of HAP in 2011.
"Mike Genord brings an incredible track record of leadership - as well as a passion for people - to this role," said Wright Lassiter III, president and interim CEO, Health Alliance Plan. "These qualities will serve us well as we continue to expand our integrated care and coverage of the important, yet underserved populations of Medicaid and dual-eligible Medicare-Medicaid beneficiaries."
Dr. Genord has been instrumental in redesigning a care coordination program to help seriously ill members with complex medical and behavioral needs. The program also addresses socio-economic needs that prevent health plan members from receiving appropriate care. Dr. Genord's experience fostering a patient-centered care model and his success in establishing provider-payer collaboration for more positive outcomes will contribute greatly to better care coordination for HAP and HAP Midwest members, as well as expansion of the organization's Medicare and Medicaid programs.
"HAP's commitment to the community is tremendous," said Dr. Michael Genord, CEO, HAP Midwest Health Plan. "As part of Henry Ford Health System, the resources available to expand our business strategies, along with care and coverage for our Medicaid members, make this an outstanding opportunity. I am both honored and excited to accept this new role."
Dr. Genord earned his medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and also holds a master's degree in business administration from the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management.
