A Heartwarming Display of Unity: HAP and CareSource CFOs Run for a Greater Cause

In the spirit of camaraderie and a shared commitment to improving the lives of Michigan residents, Merrill Hausenfluck, Chief Financial Officer of HAP, and Larry Smart, Chief Financial Officer of CareSource, participated in multiple races during The HAP Crim Festival of Races weekend. Their running and professional connections span more than 15 years, serving as a symbol of a connection that transcends the boundaries of business and reflects a dedicated effort to unite for the greater good.

HAP and CareSource recently joined forces through a joint venture agreement, solidifying their readiness to provide high-quality Medicaid coverage to a broader population of Michigan residents. This collaborative initiative aims to enhance the health outcomes of the most vulnerable individuals, with a particular focus on areas like Flint, where the need is substantial.

Reflecting on their longstanding friendship and running partnership, Merrill shared, "Larry and I have participated in various races together over the past few decades, from the Boston Marathon to the Berlin Marathon in Germany. However, none have been as important as events like the CRIM, where our companies unite to engage with and be a part of the communities we serve."

Despite suffering from nerve damage in his foot, Merrill remains enthusiastic about running for a good cause. He stated, "I was thrilled to share this event with Larry, HAP volunteers and the thousands of participants. I enjoyed witnessing the different races and the joy and friendship among all those present. It is truly an event that brings people together throughout the weekend. This is how you build upon 46 years of success in the community. I'm grateful that I was able to run with an old friend at the HAP Crim Festival of Races, and most importantly, to see firsthand the many lives the foundation touches and impacts. We are already looking forward to next year."

HAP will proudly serve as the title sponsor of the HAP Crim Festival of Races up to the 50th Crim celebration in 2027. The Crim races serve as a powerful catalyst, inspiring community members of all fitness levels to embrace exercise and rally around each other's efforts. The Crim Fitness Foundation cultivates accessible, vibrant communities in the City of Flint and Genesee County that encourage and create equitable opportunities for individuals to lead healthy lifestyles.
