Boots for Kids: Help Us Give Cold Feet the Boot

At the bus stop, the playground, or walking to school, no child should suffer from cold feet. Michigan winters are notoriously cold and unpredictable, and this winter is no different. So, once again, there’s a need for warm winter boots.

Boots for Kids originated in HAP's office in Flint. "At Health Alliance Plan, we believe in giving back to the communities in which we do business," said Tom Spring, HAP’s director of wellness and community programs. “We are thankful for the communities that support our annual campaign. The generous boot donations and financial contributions are what makes this program a success. All contributions – including boots and monetary donations – stay in the local community in which they’re made,” Spring said.

How you can donate

Boots for Kids depends on the support of residents and businesses throughout the community. When you step up to support Boots for Kids, it makes a big difference. Collection season for the program is now through March 31, 2017.

Monetary donations will be used to purchase new boots. You can make one online or in person at one of the collection sites. Checks should be made payable to “Priority Children/HAP’s Boots for Kids.” Priority Children, a 501(c)3 organization that works to improve the quality of life for children and families, acts as the fiduciary for HAP’s Boots for Kids.

Here are a few other things you can do:

  • Donate boots at any of the collection sites
  • Volunteer to help sort boots
  • Promote the program via social media using the hashtag #HAPbootsforkids
  • Volunteer to become a donation station
