Getting Care

Do I need a primary care physician?

HMO: HMO members need to choose a PCP. Our HMO network includes thousands of doctors and leading hospitals.

PPO: Our vast network of doctors gives you great choices for care. HAP is affiliated with leading hospitals in Michigan. Our PPO plans don’t require you to choose a PCP, but we recommend you do.

You can also call a PCP selection specialist at (888) 742-2727

Where to go for care – urgent, emergency, telehealth

It's important to know the difference between urgent and emergency conditions to make sure you get the right care at the right time. This can save you out-of-pocket expenses and ensure you're treated quickly based on your condition. In most cases it will cost you less out-of-pocket to visit an affiliated urgent care center than an emergency room.

Preventive services

Preventive care is an important part of staying healthy. HAP members are covered for a wide range of routine services including annual wellness checkups, breast cancer screenings, immunizations and more.

For a personalized list of your recommended preventive services, log in to hap.org, and look under MyHealth reminders.

Prescription coverage
