Health Alliance Plan encouraging Flint area business to support Boots for Kids campaign

December 19, 2016

DETROIT – To help area children who need new boots this winter, Health Alliance Plan (HAP) has kicked off its ninth annual Boots for Kids collection, which will run through March 31, 2017, in the Flint, Saginaw and Bay City areas with the goal of collecting 1,000 pairs of boots.

Since the program began in 2008, HAP's Boots for Kids has provided new boots to more than 3,000 area children at shelters and community agencies throughout Genesee, Saginaw, Bay, Lapeer and St. Clair counties.

"There are just so many kids in need, it is our pleasure as a local business to support these families," said Tom Spring, director, wellness and community relations, Health Alliance Plan. "It is our goal to be good neighbors and partners with groups like Priority Children, who donate their time to help the cause. All we need now is the help of other businesses to dig deep to help make this year's drive a success."

New boots of any size can be donated at any of the 10 businesses, retailers and churches in the Flint, Saginaw and Bay City areas that display a HAP's Boots for Kids-branded box.

Monetary donations, which will be used to purchase new boots, may also be made at those locations as well as online through the HAP website at Boots for Kids. Checks should be made payable to "Priority Children/HAP's Boots for Kids." Priority Children, a 501(c)3 organization that works to improve the quality of life for children and families, acts as the fiduciary for HAP's Boots for Kids.

"All contributions - including boots and monetary donations - stay in the local community in which they're made," Spring said.

HAP is committed to the well-being of residents in the region through participation in several additional community events, initiatives and organizations such as the HAP Crim Festival of Races, The Flint Famer's Market, the Crim Fitness Foundation, Priority Children, Whaley Children's Center and Hurley Medical Center.
