Urgent Care Situations
Now that you’ve become familiar with what an
emergency condition is, you may be asking yourself:
“What if it’s not quite that serious but it’s a medical
condition that needs prompt medical attention?” If it’s
not quite that serious, it’s an urgent condition. An
urgent condition is not life threatening but may require
prompt attention. Sprained ankles, most burns, and
minor wounds requiring stitches are typical examples of
urgent conditions.
Many times, your doctor can treat urgent conditions in
his/her office. Your doctor may have appointments set
aside for patients with this type of need. When you call
with an urgent need, your doctor can schedule you for a
same or next day appointment.
It’s Late, The Doctor’s Office Is Closed, And
You Need Help.
After selecting your doctor, ask for instructions on
obtaining medical care when the office is closed.
Although the office is closed, there is an answering
service or recorded message to advise you where to
seek care or how to contact a nurse or a doctor. Your
doctor may also be able to advise you of Alliance-
affiliated urgent care facilities nearby. For a list of
Alliance-affiliated urgent care facilities visit our Web site
. You can also give Client Services a call.
If you are out of the service area, you have worldwide
coverage for urgent situations. You would go to the
nearest urgent care facility. If the provider does not
recognize your Alliance ID card, don’t worry. Alliance
will fully reimburse you for emergency services less any
cost-sharing amounts.
