National Mentoring Month
January is National Mentoring Month
It's the little moments spent with a child that will make a big, lifelong difference. January is National Mentoring Month. Health Alliance Plan invites you to join HAP employees and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Detroit to make a difference in the life of a young person.
Many children just need a champion in their corner–a caring friend who provides a listening ear and encouraging word. Mentors are everyday people in your community like the HAP employees who inspire Detroit's young people to become future business and community leaders simply by seeing the good in them. Where HAP volunteers see a need, they take action. In 2009, HAP employees and their families raised more than $15,000 to support Metro Detroit's Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs through the Bowl For Kids' Sake event.
Many children are waiting to be matched with caring mentors, especially boys who need positive male role models. HAP encourages you to become a mentor by contacting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Detroit at (313) 309-0500 or go to bbbsdetroit.org.
