National Headache Awareness Week

There are many kinds of headaches. Tension and migraine headaches are the most common types.

  • Tension headaches usually feel like a dull pain or tightness around part or all of the head. They are often caused by stress, lack of sleep or depression.
  • Migraine headaches are described as a severe, throbbing pain which is often accompanied by nausea or sensitivity to light and/or sound. Migraine headaches sometimes last several days. They can be triggered by certain foods, such as those that contain monosodium glutamate (MSG), nitrates, nitrites or caffeine. They can also be triggered by stress, excessive hunger, excessive smoking or changes in the weather. Migraine headaches can be hereditary.
