Summer Ready Skin
For Margaret Creekmore, Senior Account Manager at HAP, craft projects are a way to unwind after a busy week. So when she noticed the Salt Scrub recipe in the Winter 2011 print edition of HAP Wise Woman magazine, she decided to give it a try. Salt scrub, which combines moisturizing oils with salt for gentle exfoliation, is a great way to keep skin soft through all types of Michigan weather.
"I got the ingredients at Natural Food Patch in Ferndale," she says. "I assembled the ingredients and mixed them in a large, empty plastic ice cream tub with a lid. Once the ingredients were in, it only took about 10 minutes to mix everything."
The recipe provided options, and Margaret chose to use the apricot oil rather than the peach kernel oil, and the cocoa rather than the coffee crystals, and she used lavender essential oil for fragrance. "Even with the lavender, you could smell the cocoa," Margaret notes. "I got some decorative jars that seal from a craft store and gave the scrub out as gifts … some to coworkers, some to friends, and some to some of my son's female friends, just to see what the younger generation thought of it. Everyone who tried it has really enjoyed it. For me, the process of making it, and thinking about the people I wanted to give it to, made me happy. I'll definitely do it again, and this time I'll try it with the coffee crystals."
