Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
Kidney disease is the slow loss of kidney function over time. The main job of the kidney is to remove waste and water from the body. There are often no symptoms during the early stages of CKD. But when kidney disease progresses, it may eventually lead to kidney failure. This requires dialysis or a kidney transplant to maintain life. Diabetes and uncontrolled high blood pressure may cause CKD. Other causes include injury and infection.
