You are able to breathe easily while performing daily activities. You have a little mucus. It’s clear or white and easily coughed up. You are thinking clearly.
You can easily perform daily activities without getting tired.
Continue normal activities.
Follow your doctor’s instructions for diet, exercise and medications.
You have more shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing than usual. You experience a change in weight and have swollen feet or ankles. Your mucus has a color to it for longer than 12 hours.
It is thicker and stickier than usual. You have a fever higher than 100.4 degrees. You are having trouble focusing. You are more restless and forgetful than normal. You feel more tired than usual and rest more often. You wake up with dizziness or headaches or have difculty sleeping. You feel like your health has worsened.
Limit your activities.
Use your inhaler or nebulizer treatment. Practice exercises for controlled breathing. Check that your oxygen system is working. Adjust your medication or oxygen use as directed.
Call your doctor if symptoms don’t improve within one to two hours.
Your breathing is fast and hard. It doesn’t get better with medicine. It is hard to breathe while resting. You want to sleep while propped up.
You have blood in your mucus and/or have difculty coughing it up. You have chest pain. You are very confused and have slurred speech. Or you feel as if you might faint. You are not able to perform normal activities and feel very drowsy. It is hard for you to walk or talk. It is difcult for you to be woken up.
Call your doctor immediately.
Call 911 if you have fainted, have slurred speech, feel faint or feel confused. Follow steps from the yellow zone.
Go to the emergency room if you’re concerned.
