Wellness is a vital part of any business, and the health of your workforce can impact culture, performance and job satisfaction among other things. As part of your HAP plan, we give you 24/7 year-round access to curated wellness resources and tools you can use to improve the health and well-being of your workforce. Our team of wellness experts are also on hand to assist you with anything you may need on your wellness journey.

30-day health and wellness challenges

Challenge your employees to think about lifestyle choices and embrace healthy habits that will last a lifetime. We teach key factors for a healthy lifestyle as they participate in fun and simple 30-day health and wellness challenges each quarter.

What can employees win?

For each challenge, HAP will hold a drawing for up to 20 gift cards worth $50 each. HAP and non-HAP members can participate. Only eligible HAP members, spouses and domestic partners age 18 or older can earn an entry for the drawing. HAP, Henry Ford Health System and OptimEyes employees and family members aren't eligible.

  • February: Resolution Reset Challenge

    HAP’s Resolution Reset Challenge 

    Challenge yourself to break a bad habit or build a healthy one. You might want to try giving up caffeine, getting 7-9 hours of sleep, staying hydrated or not texting while you drive.

    Tip for success
    Whatever you want to change, it helps to create a SMART goal that is:

    •  Specific –What exactly is the goal? Instead of “drinking more water,” set a goal to drink 64 ounces each day.
    •  Measurable – Can you measure your results? For example, you can look at the clock to see how long you’ve slept or use a fitness tracker to see how far you walked.
    •  Attainable – Can you do it? You’re probably not going to climb Everest this month, but you could go to the climbing gym 3 times a week.
    •  Relevant – Will the change be important to your life? For example, if sleep troubles are leaving you grouchy or unfocused, eliminating caffeine may help.
    • Time-oriented – Does it have a deadline? Yes. You’re going to do it in February.

    How it works

    To be entered into the prize drawing, you must:

    • Record your progress for at least 21 days during the challenge.
    • Record meeting your goal for at least 15 of those days.

    Registration opens Jan. 1, 2019. Challenge begins Feb. 1, 2019 and ends Feb. 28, 2019.

    Prizes: At the end of the challenge, HAP will hold a drawing for $100 gift cards.

    Who can participate?

    HAP and non-HAP members can participate. Only eligible HAP members, spouses and domestic partners age 18 or older can earn an entry for the drawing. HAP, Henry Ford Health System and OptimEyes employees and family members aren’t eligible.

  • May: Gear Up Challenge

    HAP’s Gear Up Challenge

    Ready to get active? Tired of your mundane fitness routine? Get into motion with HAP’s Gear Up Challenge. Challenge yourself to start an activity or take your current workout up a notch.

    Tips for success

    It’s important to find a workout that works for you. Try these tips:

    • Trying something new? Take a class, hire a trainer, join a group or ask a friend.
    • Don’t like gyms? Work out at home with a treadmill, exercise video, weights or fitness bands.
    • Bored? Do a dance workout or find a scenic trail to run, walk or bike.
    • Not enough time? Take the stairs at work, walk on your lunch break or make biking a family activity.
    • Worried about injuries? Talk to your doctor before you get started.

    How it works

    To be entered into the prize drawing, you must:

    • Record your progress for at least 21 days during the challenge.
    • Record meeting your goal for at least 15 of those days.

    Registration opens April 1, 2019. Challenge begins May 1, 2019 and ends May 31, 2019.

    Prizes: One randomly drawn winner will receive a Detroit-made bike. Other winners will receive a $100 gift card. Prizes are awarded the month after each challenge.

    Who can participate?

  • August: Up Your Veggie Game Challenge

    HAP's Up Your Veggie Game Challenge

    August is the perfect time to enjoy seasonal produce from your local farmer’s market. Challenge yourself to eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables every day in August.

    Tips for success

    • Throw a piece of fruit or a handful of carrots into your lunch.
    • Cut up veggies to keep in your fridge for snacking with your favorite dip.
    • Add veggies to your favorite pasta dish.
    • Add berries or a sliced banana to your cereal.
    • Roast, grill, steam or stir fry a veggie side dish with dinner.

    How it works

    To be entered into the prize drawing, you must:

    • Record your progress for at least 21 days during the challenge.
    • Record meeting your goal for at least 15 of those days.

    Registration opens July 1, 2019. Challenge begins Aug. 1, 2019 and ends Aug. 31, 2019.

    Prizes: One randomly drawn winner will receive a gift card for a meal-prep delivery service. Other winners receive $100 gift cards. Prizes are awarded the month after each challenge.

    Who can participate?

    HAP and non-HAP members can participate. Only eligible HAP members, spouses and domestic partners age 18 or older can earn an entry for the drawing. HAP, Henry Ford Health System and OptimEyes employees and family members aren’t eligible.

  • November: Choose Joy Challenge

    HAP’s Choose Joy Challenge

    Challenge yourself to choose joy over stress this holiday season. Take a moment to think about what brings you joy. Find time each day to enjoy simple pleasures such as drinking tea, walking your dog or sitting by a fire.

    Tips for success

    • Breathe – Deep breathing, meditation or yoga all help relax your body and mind.
    • Move – Dance, go for a walk or have a snowball fight.
    • Laugh – Watch a funny movie or video or call your funniest friend.
    • Be social – Phone a friend or go for a visit.
    • Play with a pet – Petting your furry friend can reduce stress and spark joy.

    How it works

    • Record meeting your goal for at least 15 of those days.

    Registration opens Oct. 1, 2019. Challenge begins Nov. 1, 2019 and ends Nov. 30, 2019.

Commit reward program

Worksite flu shots

Protect your employees with an on-site flu shot clinic, or encourage your workforce to get their flu shot from an approved provider. Most HAP members are eligible to receive flu shots at no charge.
