Community and Volunteer Events
Our Community is our Family
The drive to improve the places we call home lies in the hearts of our employees. Giving back is ingrained in the spirit of everything we do and is a huge part of HAP's corporate culture.
Each year our employees raise funds and volunteer their time for community events like these.
|Walking for Healthy Hearts
More than 200 HAP employees walked and volunteered at the Metro Detroit Heart Walk at Ford Field on May 12. HAP volunteers raised nearly $28,000 to support the American Heart Association's efforts to save lives from the nation's leading killers - heart disease and stroke. HAP was also an event sponsor, bringing the total HAP contribution to more than $42,000.
|Planting New Roots in Detroit
Although HAP's Detroit roots date back to 1960, a new generation of HAP employees had their chance to plant new roots in support of The Greening of Detroit's efforts to reforest the city. On May 4, 50 HAP volunteer traded in their loafers and laptops for t-shirts and shovels to plant 50 trees in Detroit's Evergreen Estates neighborhood.
|Marching for Healthy Babies
At the March for Babies at Wayne State University on April 29, 60 HAP volunteers walked to give hope to the more than half a million babies born too soon each year. HAP volunteers raised $6,384 to support the March of Dimes' research and community programs that help mothers have healthy, full-term pregnancies. HAP was also an event sponsor, bringing the total HAP contribution to more than $11,300.
|Bowling for Kids' Sake
We strive to make a difference and lead by example. Our HAP leaders volunteer year-round as Big Brothers and Big Sisters, serving as role models for youth. In 2011, HAP sponsored the Bowling for Kids' Sake event, and 101 employee volunteers raised $15,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit.
|Memory Walk for Alzheimer's
Alzheimer's disease affects millions of people worldwide. That's why nearly 50 HAP employees and family members participated in the 2012 Memory Walk for Alzheimer's, raising more than $4,200 to support research to find a cure and treatments for those affected by this tragic disease.
|Fighting Hunger With Gleaners
To help fight hunger in the community during the summer months, HAP employees collected 1,075 assorted canned goods and other food items for Gleaners Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. Twenty HAP volunteers also donated their time as part of HAP's Employee Service Day, filling 770 bags with produce and packing boxes with more than 20,000 pounds of food.
|Boots For Kids
Boots for Kids is a program that was created by our employees in 2008. Each year, thanks to these employees and our community partners throughout Bay, Genesee, Huron, Lapeer, Saginaw and St. Clair counties; thousands of children receive new winter boots.
In addition to these employee fundraising and volunteer events, HAP funds education programs and scholarships like the Macomb Science Olympiad, Oakland Schools Education Foundation and the Rouge Education Project. These programs help young people in our communities reach their educational goals.
