Community Wellness Programs

Our free community wellness programs are making a difference by inspiring people to eat healthier, get moving and know their numbers. Anyone in the community can attend these programs; you don't have to be a member.

Water Aerobics
Every year, HAP offers water aerobics classes throughout southeast Michigan to get community members moving. We do this in partnership with community centers - some that could not otherwise afford to keep their pools open. Our Splash Bash classes are a huge success with our participants, strengthening not only their bodies, but also their spirits.

Enhance Fitness
Enhance Fitness is a free physical activity program geared toward improving the overall functional fitness and well-being of older adults. However, adults of any age are welcome; the program is designed to accommodate all fitness levels. A certified fitness instructor leads a one-hour class, three times a week. Each class focuses on cardiovascular conditioning, resistance and strength training, flexibility and balance training.

Ready, Set, Cook!
More than 18 percent of Michigan's adolescents are overweight, according to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Ready, Set, Cook teaches children about good food and making healthy choices. In this six-week, after-school program, children 8-14 years old learn firsthand how to prepare healthier meals and after-school snacks.

Connect 4...
Your Destiny to Wellness provides wellness lessons, linking the four healthy habits of the American Academy of Pediatrics, 5-2-1-0 (5 fruits and vegetables daily, 2 hours or less of recreational screen time, 1 hour or more of physical activity and 0 sugary drinks) to religious principles. Lessons are provided via modules for students in kindergarten through fifth grade and each wellness lesson is supported by a memory verse and passage from the bible, Qur'an, and Tanakh. Parents are supplied with a Goal Tracker to help children integrate the wellness guide into their daily routine. "Connect 4... Your Destiny to Wellness" is the latest of many community health initiatives from HAP for children and adults
