Health Alliance Plan Launches Boots for Kids Campaign to Collect Winter Boots for Needy Children
FLINT, Mich. - Jan. 13, 2016 - To help area children who need new boots this winter, Health Alliance Plan (HAP) has kicked off its eighth annual Boots for Kids collection, which will run through March 31, 2016, in the Flint, Saginaw and Bay City areas with the goal of collecting 1,000 pairs of boots.
Since the program began in 2008, HAP’s Boots for Kids has provided new boots to more than 3,000 area children at shelters and community agencies throughout Genesee, Saginaw, Bay, Lapeer and St. Clair counties. Already this winter, nearly 1,000 pairs of boots that were previously collected have been distributed to the children who need them most.
“We are thankful for the area communities that support our annual campaign,” said DeAndre Lipscomb, vice president, marketing and community outreach, Health Alliance Plan. “The generous boot donations and financial contributions of local businesses and the community is what makes this program a success. We couldn’t make this happen without our invaluable community partners, such as the Old Newsboys of Flint and Priority Children, who donate their time and facilities to the cause.”
New boots of any size can be donated at any of the 12 local health insurance agencies, businesses, retailers and churches in the Flint, Saginaw and Bay City areas that display a HAP’s Boots for Kids-branded box.
Monetary donations, which will be used to purchase new boots, may also be made at those locations as well as online through the HAP website at www.hap.org/bootsforkids. Checks should be made payable to “Priority Children/HAP’s Boots for Kids.” Priority Children, a 501(c)3 organization that works to improve the quality of life for children and families, acts as the fiduciary for HAP’s Boots for Kids.
“All contributions - including boots and monetary donations - stay in the local community in which they’re made,” Lipscomb said.
