Health Alliance Plan's Boots for Kids Campaign Keeps Little Feet Warm

FLINT, Mich. — Dec. 2014 — As temperatures fall, Health Alliance Plan (HAP) is ready to keep local children from facing the cold without a warm pair of boots to protect their feet. Since its inception in 2008, HAP's Boots for Kids has collected more than 3,500 pairs of brand new boots to be distributed to needy families in the area, thanks to generous financial contributions and boot donations from the community. The 2014 campaign is now under way. Residents can donate boots or make a monetary contribution at collection sites throughout the region. Boots collected will be used for distribution this year and in the coming years to needy families in the area.

The project originated in HAP's East Central Region office in Flint, Mich. "At Health Alliance Plan, we believe in giving back to the communities in which we do business," said DeAndre Lipscomb, vice president, Marketing and Community Outreach, Health Alliance Plan. "Last year alone, we collected more than 1,000 pairs of boots for local children. If this winter is anything like last year in Michigan, we know these boots will be put to good use."

New boots and donations will be collected until March 1, 2015, since cold weather often continues through spring months in Michigan. Since the program began, HAP has distributed new winter boots to thousands of children served by various shelters and missions throughout Genesee, Saginaw, Bay, Lapeer and St. Clair counties. HAP is committed to the well-being of residents in the region through participation in several additional community events, initiatives and organizations such as the annual classic car cruise Back to the Bricks, the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Flint Youth Theatre, March of Dimes, Old Newsboys of Flint, Priority Children, Resource Genesee, The Whiting, Whaley Children's Center and Zonta Club.
