President and CEO Announced for Health Alliance Plan (HAP)
Detroit – January 27, 2014 – James M. Connelly, senior vice president and chief financial officer, Henry Ford Health System, has been appointed president and CEO of Health Alliance Plan, (HAP), Michigan's second largest health insurance company, and executive vice president of Henry Ford. The appointment takes placed immediately.Connelly previously served a dual role as HAP interim president and chief executive officer and Henry Ford executive vice
president and chief financial officer prior to his HAP appointment.
"James's accomplishments during the past 14 years with Henry Ford as CFO and Treasurer have been instrumental to our success," says Nancy Schlichting, CEO of Henry Ford. "During James's tenure, the health system revenues doubled to $4.5 billion and our assets grew from $2 billion to $3.5 billion. Henry Ford was profitable for the past decade."
Despite the challenging economic environment, Connelly oversaw the financing of the $300 million, five-year expansion at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and the 0 million construction of Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital. James's talent, business expertise, and counsel benefit the entire System.
Connelly replaces William Alvin, who left in 2013.
With James's transition, Joe Schmitt will become Acting Chief Financial Officer of Henry Ford. During the past 23 years, Joe has served as Chief Financial Officer of HAP and the Henry Ford Hospital and Health Network.
