HAP Medicare Flexible Health Options benefit pays members to exercise for the health of it
DETROIT – Nov. 15, 2012 – Seniors are realizing more than ever that regular exercise is one of the healthiest things they can do for themselves to stay fit and strong, and maintain their independence. Yoga, low-impact aerobics and Tai Chi are just a few examples of the many forms of exercise that older adults can do, and Health Alliance Plan will help them pay for it. With HAP's Flexible Health Options benefit, members receive up to $40 monthly ($480 annually) to achieve their health and fitness goals.
The Flexible Health Options benefit is a part of the HAP benefit package for members of:
- HAP Senior Plus (HMO)
- HAP Senior Plus (HMO-POS); and
- Alliance Medicare PPO.
HAP's Flexible Health Options benefit supports many activities, such as membership at a gym, health club or fitness center that offers swimming, low-impact aerobics, weight lifting, and Zumba classes. Members who travel can join a program with nationwide or worldwide facilities. Memberships and classes that focus on weight loss such as Weight Watchers® also qualify for the Flexible Health Options benefit.
"Exercise is integral to a healthy lifestyle," said Karen Wintringham, HAP vice president, Medicare Programs. "We want our members to stay healthy and have fun socializing with others, and we'll help them pay for fitness memberships and weight loss programs. Our Flexible Health Options benefit is unique to HAP here in Michigan and an excellent way for our members to commit to leading a healthy lifestyle."
