Health Alliance Plan offers Plan Selector, a new online tool to assist Medicare Beneficiaries

DETROIT – Nov. 5, 2012 – Many Medicare beneficiaries may know that the Medicare annual Open Enrollment Period runs from October 15, 2012 to December 7, 2012. However, they may not know where to get started. Health Alliance Plan (HAP) has developed "Plan Selector," an online Q&A tool to help Medicare beneficiaries review the plans offered by HAP: http://www.hap.org/healthinsurance/medicare/plan_selector.php.

"Plan Selector" will ask consumers a few short, simple questions including:

  1. What Michigan county do you live in?
  2. Do you want prescription drug coverage?
  3. When you travel, do you need more than emergency and urgent care?

Upon completing the brief Q&A, Medicare beneficiaries will see the HAP plans that may meet their needs. It also enables them to compare HAP plans. HAP Medicare Solutions programs include: HAP Senior Plus (HMO-POS) Expanded Network, HAP Senior Plus (HMO) Henry Ford, Alliance Medicare PPO, Alliance Medicare Supplement and Alliance Medicare Rx (pdp).

If a consumer has additional questions after reading the plan highlights, they can complete an online form and a local HAP Medicare Sales Representative can contact them via phone or e-mail with answers to their questions.

"Plan Selector is a wonderful online tool for Medicare beneficiaries, their friends or family members," said Karen Wintringham, HAP vice president, Medicare Programs. "It is easily accessible and offers a basic description of each HAP plan with links to additional rates and benefit information."

Important information for Medicare beneficiaries:
The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period runs from October 15, 2012 through December 7, 2012. Coverage for individuals who enroll during this period begins January 1, 2013. Now is the time for Medicare beneficiaries who do not receive coverage through an employer to review their current medical and prescription drug coverage for 2013. Those who have health benefits from an employer group plan should ask the company or union for advice before signing up for any plan.
