Health Alliance Plan offers a new consumer resource – Medicare 101: A series of short videos available in real time
DETROIT – Oct. 17, 2012 – Medicare is a complex subject, yet Health Alliance Plan (HAP) has found an imaginative way to explain it. A series of four short (three to four minute) "Medicare in Minutes" videos provide easy-to-understand information to consumers and Medicare beneficiaries in a compelling whiteboard style format.
"Our Medicare in Minutes Video Library is a terrific tool for consumers," said Karen Wintringham, HAP vice president, Medicare Programs. "The depth of information regarding Medicare can be overwhelming. The most important information consumers need to know about Medicare is broken down into small segments. Medicare beneficiaries can access the videos any time and navigate each subject at their own pace – with a little help from HAP."
The Medicare in Minutes Video Library includes:
- The Basics of Medicare
- Part D: Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage
- Eligibility, Enrollment and Choosing Plans
- What isn't covered by Medicare? Why Consider Additional Coverage?
"We felt strongly about the visual reinforcement – viewers will hear a voice on the video, but they can also see the content developed and reinforced on the screen," said Matthew Majeski, Director, Digital & Social Marketing, HAP.
Consumers can watch the videos online www.hap.org/medicare101 during the Medicare annual Open Enrollment Period (October 15, 2012 through December 7, 2012). Consumers also can request a free DVD by going to the HAP website and completing a form to request a copy, or by calling: 800-971-7878.
Important information for Medicare beneficiaries:
The Medicare annual Open Enrollment Period runs from October 15, 2012 through December 7, 2012. Coverage for individuals who enroll during this period begins January 1, 2013. Now is the time for Medicare beneficiaries who do not receive coverage through an employer to review their current medical and prescription drug needs, and to decide if they want to change their coverage for 2013. Those who have health benefits from an employer group plan should ask the company or union for advice before signing up for any plan.
