Rev. Nick Hood, III Asks Southeast Michiganders to Ring in 2011 Without Guns
DETROIT -- December 29, 2010 -- To kick-off his annual campaign to save lives during New Year's Eve celebrations, Rev. Nicholas Hood, III, the Citizens of the New Millennium Foundation, and corporate partner, Health Alliance Plan (HAP) will host a press conference on Thursday, December 30 at 10 a.m. at the HAP Corporate Offices, 2850 West Grand Boulevard in Detroit.
The "Ring in the New Year with a Bell, Not a Bang" safety campaign reminds Detroiters and Wayne County residents of the dangerous consequences of using guns during New Year's Eve celebrations. The campaign was established in 1997, a year after Sandra Latham – a grandmother – was killed by a stray bullet while sitting in her dining room. Rev. Hood initiated this safety campaign to save lives during New Year's Eve.
Rev. Hood will be joined by HAP Chief Operating Officer David Scott; Ring in the New Year campaign co-chair Maureen Stapleton, State Representative-elect (District 4); members of the Latham family; local clergy and community and block club representatives from throughout the Detroit area
Interviews and photo opportunities are available. Media may park in the Visitor's Lot behind HAP's Corporate Office. Check in at the Security Booth. A light brunch and beverages will be served.
