Two Thousand Tiny Toes Are Toastier This Winter

Region rallies to give new winter boots to Flint, Lapeer, Port Huron and Saginaw kids

FLINT – February 17, 2010 – More than 200 children across Genesee, Huron, Saginaw and St. Clair counties received a warm pair of winter boots in time for the biggest snow storm of the season.

With the help of more than 20 community partners, Health Alliance Plan (HAP) collected 260 pairs of children's winter boots (,000 estimated value) through its second annual "Boots for Kids" collection from November through January. The donated boots were distributed to families served by Carriage Town Ministries of Flint, City Rescue Michigan of Saginaw, Love INC of Greater Lapeer and Pathway Shelter of Port Huron.

"We are grateful to everyone who donated to Boots for Kids' as well as our generous and caring community partners who helped us to more than double our boot donations from last year," said Anita Moliterno, general manager of HAP's East Central office in Flint. "In this challenging Michigan economy, more families are finding themselves in need of assistance and we encourage communities throughout this region to support local shelters year round."
