HAP Offers Free Informational Medicare DVD and Workshops

DETROIT – December 3, 2009 – Health Alliance Plan (HAP) will provide a free DVD to those seeking information about Medicare and how to approach making the annual decision. Thousands of beneficiaries also will receive plenty of individual attention in local workshops sponsored by HAP.
 
"Making Medicare Work for You" DVD
In HAP's "Making Medicare Work for You" DVD,  local experts, including a physician, a pharmacist and a representative from the Area Agency on Aging 1-B Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program, explain the basics of Medicare, options for extra coverage, how to choose a plan and more. "Making Medicare Work for You" also explains the "A-B-C-s" of Medicare, what Original Medicare doesn't cover, and what to do when your employer or your health plan cancels your retiree health benefits. The DVD also covers the importance of coverage for preventive services and managing chronic conditions.

"This DVD was created for the general public, and is a useful resource for anyone trying to better understand Medicare," said Karen Wintringham, Vice President, Medicare Programs. "The DVD explains how simplify the enrollment process by focusing on what's most important to you during the open enrollment period when making your decision about a plan for the coming year."

Small, Local Workshops Offer Personal Attention
HAP is hosting Medicare workshops throughout southeast Michigan, with plenty of opportunities for beneficiaries to receive personal attention from knowledgeable HAP staff who can answer questions about Medicare options. Beneficiaries may bring a friend or family member to the workshops.  A HAP sales representative will be present at the workshops.

Important Information for Beneficiaries:
The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period runs from November 15 through December 31, 2009. Coverage for individuals who enroll during this period begins January 1, 2010. Now is the time for Medicare beneficiaries who do not receive coverage through an employer to review their current medical and prescription drug coverage for 2010. Those who have health benefits from an employer group plan should ask the company or union for advice before signing up for any plan.
