Genesys PHO joins provider network of Michigan's top-ranked Medicare HMO
HAP further expands scope of service within Genesee County
DETROIT – October 26, 2009 – Health Alliance Plan (HAP) welcomes the Genesys Physician Hospital Organization, Grand Blanc, to its Medicare provider network, further expanding its scope of service in Genesee County. The HAP Medicare Advantage HMO, HAP Senior Plus, is the top-ranked Medicare HMO plan in Michigan, according to the U.S. News and World Report 2008-2009 list of America's Best Health Plans www.usnews.com/healthplans.
"We are pleased to add the Genesys PHO to the HAP provider network and offer our Genesee County-based Medicare HMO members access to physicians who share our patient-focused care philosophy, " said Karen Wintringham, HAP vice president, Medicare and Public Sector Programs.
The Genesys PHO serves several hundred thousand people. More than 160 primary care physicians in the Genesys network act as health advocates and offer outpatient ambulatory care, physical medicine treatment, substance abuse/addiction treatment and mental health services.
Now is the time for Medicare beneficiaries who do not receive coverage through an employer to review their current medical and prescription drug coverage for 2010. The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period runs from November 15 through December 31, 2009. Coverage for individuals who enroll during this period begins January 1, 2010. Those who have health benefits from an employer group plan should ask the company or union for advice before signing up for any plan.
Today 50,000 Medicare beneficiaries have chosen HAP's Medicare Solutions for additional coverage beyond original Medicare. HAP offers Medicare Advantage plans (HAP Senior Plus HMO; Alliance Medicare PPO), a Prescription Drug Plan (Alliance Medicare Rx), and a Medigap plan (Alliance Medicare Supplement).
The 2010 optional benefit offerings include prescription drug coverage, dental benefits and the Flexible Health Options benefit, which was increased to .00 per month toward gym or fitness center memberships, exercise classes, or qualified weight management programs.
HAP was the first health plan in Michigan to assign a Personal Service Coordinator to new Medicare members to help them acclimate to their Medicare plan. During their first two years of membership, members can call their Personal Service Coordinator directly for assistance.
"Our members consistently tell us how much they appreciate our Personal Service Coordinators," added Wintringham. "It is comforting to have someone they can call with a question."
Genesee County residents who have questions about HAP's Medicare products or services can call toll-free at (800) 971-7878 or TDD (800) 956-4325.
