HAP is Calling All Moms for Free Water Aerobics
Classes Offered at Nine Metro Detroit Locations
DETROIT – June 3, 2008 – Four years after launching its inaugural water aerobics class, Health Alliance Plan (HAP) will once again sponsor free Moms in Motion classes this summer to help thousands of mothers around metro Detroit stay fit and improve their health. Classes will be offered in nine southeast Michigan communities.
"For many mothers, staying physically active is a challenge, and we are pleased to provide this opportunity for them in a safe and convenient environment at no cost," said Chrystal Roberts, HAP's director of community relations.
Moms in Motion classes provide a fun, low-impact, calorie burning workout that can help mothers get in shape to keep up with their kids and have energy to spare to take care of themselves. Physical activity can also help reduce the risk of obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, stroke, depression, colon cancer, and premature death.
In 2007, nearly 5,000 metro Detroiters participated in the program, with an average daily participation of more than 500. HAP hopes to continue to grow participation this summer as it has done each year since the program began.
"When HAP launched this program in 2005, we didn't expect it to be as popular as it has grown to be today," Roberts said. "Participants across metro Detroit are so pleased with the program that they have asked us to bring it back for another season."
Classes are not limited to HAP members. For more information about classes, contact HAP at (313) 664-8420 Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon.
