HAP Contracts with Northern Michigan Hospitals to Bring Affordable Health Care Options to PPO Customers
DETROIT – March 11 2008 – Health Alliance Plan (HAP), one of Michigan's largest health plans, has secured contracts with Charlevoix Area Hospital, Cheboygan Memorial Hospital and Northern Michigan Regional Hospital to give employers and individuals in this region access to Northern Michigan's top hospitals.
The contracts are part of a statewide expansion by HAP aimed at providing affordable, high-quality health care to PPO customers through an extensive, and growing statewide provider network.
"We're excited to work with these outstanding community hospitals to increase access to affordable health care solutions in this region," said Jamie Spriet, Vice President of Business Development. "HAP's growing provider network and insurance product portfolio brings much-needed competition in statewide health coverage. We look forward to creating strong relationships with northern Michigan providers, businesses and community leaders that will drive quality improvement."
HAP is known as an industry pioneer; helping to launch an e-Prescribing program that has improved patient safety and saved millions of health care dollars, and being the first in Michigan to introduce an IT-based disease management registry for patients with chronic illnesses. The nonprofit health plan serves more than 545,000 members and has among the lowest administrative overhead in the country – with nearly 92 percent of every health care dollar going directly toward the provision of patient care – as well as best-in-class customer service and claims processing.
The announcement drew positive reactions from local providers:
"Cheboygan Memorial Hospital is always looking for ways to continue to provide affordable, high-quality health care to the community," said Mike Grisdale, director of Public Relations. "A strong relationship with HAP can only help us provide access to affordable health coverage for more northern Michigan residents."
"Northern Michigan Regional Hospital is excited to work with a high-quality health plan such as HAP," said Barbara Berry, director of Planning and Marketing. "We look forward to rolling up our sleeves and working with HAP to build access to high-quality and affordable health care in our service area, and to make the patient experience the best it can be."
HAP is well positioned to provide competitive quotes for self-funded business statewide and intends to expand the counties in which it can quote fully insured business throughout 2008. HAP's Medicare Supplement (Medigap) and Alliance Medicare Rx (Prescription Drug Plan) options are currently available statewide.
Health care providers who are interested in contracting with HAP may contact Deborah Withrow, Vice President of Strategic Relationships, at 313-664-8379 or email email@example.com.
