As a Wicked Winter Approaches, "Boots for Kids" Aims to Warm Two Thousand Feet in Bay City, Davison, Flint, Lapeer, Port Huron and Saginaw

HAP is collecting new children's winter boots through January 31, 2012 and distributing them to Carriage Town Ministries of Flint, Flint Eastside Mission, Outreach East in Davison, Good Samaritan Rescue Mission in Bay City, City Rescue Mission of Saginaw, Love INC of Greater Lapeer and Pathway Shelter of Port Huron.

In an effort to collect 1,000 pairs of boots, HAP has teamed up with local health insurance agents and other community partners who have volunteered to collect boots at their offices throughout Bay, Genesee, Huron, Lapeer, Saginaw and St. Clair counties. Ford Motor Company Selects HAP for Its Salaried Active Employees and Pre-65 Retirees

Ford Motor Company has selected Health Alliance Plan as the exclusive HMO carrier for its salaried active workforce and pre-65 retirees in southeast Michigan. The HAP Health Engagement Aspire program, which begins on January 1, 2012, motivates employees to reach their personal health goals and save on out-of-pocket costs by making healthier choices.

"HAP's relationship with Ford Motor Company spans 50 years, and we're so proud to serve multiple generations of Ford families," said HAP President and CEO Bill Alvin. "We've earned the trust of Ford Motor Company for our ability to bring to the table cost-effective solutions that improve the health and well-being of employees throughout their Ford careers and retirement years."


Health Alliance Plan Announces Intent to Acquire Midwest Health Plan

Health Alliance Plan (HAP) announced a definitive agreement to acquire Midwest Health Plan (MHP), a for-profit Medicaid HMO with 74,000 members based in Dearborn. The acquisition is pending federal and state regulatory approvals. HAP intends to maintain MHP as a separate, wholly owned subsidiary under the proposed agreement. Dr. Mark Saffer, the founder of MHP, will maintain his position as President. Midwest Health Plan will continue to operate under the same name in its Dearborn headquarters.

"Together we are committed to innovation and excellence in managed care through fiscally responsible programs that assure access to high-quality medical services to customers in our commercial and government programs."


HAP Welcomes Naim Munir, M.D. as Chief Medical Officer

Health Alliance Plan appointed Naim Munir, M.D. as senior vice president and chief medical officer.

“Dr. Munir’s passion for measuring and improving the health of populations is evidenced by his service of ten years as a physician reviewer for the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and through his appointment to NCQA's national Review Oversight Committee for two terms," said William Alvin, president and CEO. Munir received his Medical Degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago and completed his family practice residency at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. Munir and his family relocated from Iowa to Northville, Michigan.
