Dr. Charles Bloom

Dr. Charles Bloom was named chief medical officer in April 2020. In this position, he leads the development and implementation of HAP’s clinical and operational programs in partnership with the region’s health care providers. He also oversees HAP’s health care and quality activities, including medical management, disease management, health care utilization management, health care quality and pharmacy care management.

Prior to this appointment, Dr. Bloom was vice president of utilization management and provider relations, responsible for leading HAP’s utilization management and behavioral health teams in implementing industry best practices designed to improve the health and well-being of HAP members.

Dr. Bloom has more than 20 years of experience in the medical field, with multiple leadership roles in emergency medicine. Prior to joining HAP in 2016, he served as chairman and medical director of emergency medicine at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Michigan. Prior to that, he was emergency department trauma director at St. Rose Dominican Hospitals and director of critical care transport, rapid response team, at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, both in Las Vegas.

He was an assistant professor at the University of Nevada School of Medicine emergency medicine residency, as well as an adjunct assistant professor of emergency medicine at Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Bloom received his medical degree from Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency in emergency medicine at Botsford General Hospital. He has received many notable awards for his clinical and academic work including the UNSOM Faculty and Teacher of the Year award, UNSOM IM Outstanding Emergency Department Attending award, the ED Top Doc award, multiple Bravo awards and the Living Our Values (LOV) award.
