Traveling This Summer? Have Peace of Mind through Assist America

If you’re traveling this summer season, enjoy peace of mind through HAP’s partnership with Assist America. HAP members have access to travel emergency assistance when traveling more than 100 miles away from home or in another country. Prepare for your trip with these tips:

Before You Leave

Number 1 Do your research about your destination

If you’re traveling abroad this summer, check out the Pre-Trip Information feature on the Assist America website and Mobile App. There, you can read about your destination including visa requirements, immunization regulations, security advisories, and more.

Number 2 Learn more about the services available

As a HAP member, you have access to Assist America's services when traveling more than 100 miles away from home or in another country. Services include medical and non-medical assistance such as emergency medical evacuations and repatriations, medical referrals, foreign hospital admission assistance, compassionate visit, lost luggage assistance, interpreter referrals and more.

During your trip

Number 1 Medical referrals

When traveling, no one is safe from contracting an illness or getting injured. From rashes to dehydration, broken ankles and food-borne illnesses, HAP and Assist America can help. If you’re not feeling well during your trip, call Assist America’s 24/7 Operations Center. After reviewing your symptoms, a coordinator will help find a doctor near you. They’ll also send directions to the facility, office hours and payment details, so you can enjoy the rest of your summer vacation.

Number 2Prescription assistance

Prescriptions which are left behind or lost can be a hassle to replace while traveling. Assist America helps refill a prescription by working with your doctor and pharmacy at home and a local pharmacy. If a new prescription is required, Assist America will find a local doctor and can make an appointment for you. Once the prescription has been refilled, a coordinator will send you the address and directions of the local pharmacy to conveniently pick up the medication.

Number 3 Medical repatriation

In some cases, a vacation can take a dramatic turn as families face a major medical emergency. Assist America has provided help and support to families after a car accident, a sports-related injury or a critical health condition. In those cases, Assist America provides a full suite of services including medical monitoring, hospital admission assistance, and evacuation and/or repatriation to guide members through such stressful situations.
