Did you know that after the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine has been widely available throughout the U.S., there has been more than a 99% decrease in how many people contract the disease? Translation: it works!
But unfortunately, not everyone is vaccinated, and the disease seems to be making a comeback. Michigan is one of 22 states with confirmed cases of measles, as of April 19, 2019. So far, there have been 43 cases in the state since mid-March, according to the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services.
The combination MMR vaccine is your best protection against the disease. If you have not been vaccinated or are unsure if you or your child is fully immunized, call your doctor or contact your local health department to find out how you can get protected.
