Susanne M. Mitchell, Esq.
UAW Social Security Department
Mitchell provides professional advice and technical assistance in designing and implementing collectively bargained benefits. This includes health, dental and vision insurance plans; pensions and 401(k) plans; life and disability insurance; supplemental unemployment benefit plans; and income security protections.
First hired into the UAW Accounting department in 1998, she administered pension, legal services and SUB plans. She joined the UAW Legal department staff as an associate general counsel in 2008, focusing her work on the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, including pension and welfare plans, SUB plans and health care reform.
Before working with the UAW, Mitchell was employed as a public accountant and in private legal practice with a focus on marital estate valuations and qualified domestic relation orders. She also served five years as an attorney for the UAW Legal Services Plan.
She graduated from Walsh College with a degree in accounting and earned a juris doctorate from Wayne State University Law School in Detroit, completing both degrees while a UAW clerical employee.
Mitchell was appointed to the HAP board in 2013.
