Denning is president of READ Consulting Service, LLC, a company which provides educational consulting. She provided contractual services to MI Excel schools in Wayne County to improve student achievement.
Denning was employed with Detroit Public Schools for 30 years. She taught culinary arts at Golightly Career and Technical Center in the Food Management, Production and Services department. She was promoted to lead the Career and Technical Education department, where she supervised business education, family and consumer science and cosmetology programs at Redford High School. She was later promoted into the district’s central office as an administrator, supervising programs in the high school and the career and technical education centers.
She developed an entrepreneurship education program and became the first recipient of the national Cathy Ashmore Leadership and Advocacy Award for entrepreneurship education in 2007.
Denning is dedicated to political, educational and health issues that affect women and their families. She serves on the boards of the Black United Fund of Michigan and Neighborhood Service Organization. Nationally, she sits on the board of The Black Women's Agenda comprised of sororities and women's organizations. She’s also a member and consultative trustee at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church.
A native of Detroit, she graduated from Western Michigan University. She earned her master's degree in education and education specialist certificate from Wayne State University.
Denning was appointed to the HAP board in 2016.
