Get Started
There are five steps in establishing a successful worksite wellness program:
Step one: Establish senior level support. Approach your leaders with a brief outline of why worksite health promotion is important and suggest to them what you hope to do; such as host an employee health fair, a wellness workshop, or comprehensive set of services. Start small, then build upon your program. If you plan to incorporate more than one or two wellness activities, take extra time to create a detailed implementation plan (Requires Adobe Reader).
Step two: Establish a wellness committee (Requires Adobe Reader). The committee should include people from different areas and levels within your organization.
Step three: Find out what your employees are interested in. Then find out what health topics your employees need most based on claims data. If you don't have access to claims data, weight management issues and stress related problems usually top the list.
Step four: Begin by building awareness. Health fairs are great for this as they provide a sampling of healthy information and health screenings.
Step five: Add other programs and workshops. Focus on the topics that interest your employees most, to get their buy-in. Next, incorporate topics they may need to learn about based on identified health issues.
