Clinical Practice Guidelines
HAP adopts and supports clinical practice or care guidelines for the treatment of a variety of medical and several behavioral conditions. These guidelines are researched, developed and approved in partnership with the Michigan Quality Improvement Consortium (MQIC). MQIC's goal is to standardize these practice guidelines to help all physicians in S.E. Michigan and many S.E. health plans such as HAP are helping these efforts. MQIC reviews the guidelines every two years or as needed to ensure they remain current. MQIC also works closely with the Michigan Interplan Behavioral Workgroup to incorporate behavioral guidelines as well.
Care guidelines help caregivers give the right care at the right time using the most current evidence show to result in the best outcomes. These guidelines are used in combination with the physician's clinical judgment and knowledge and not as a "cookbook" for patient care.

Healthy Living Guidelines
HAP's Healthy Living Guidelines are based primarily on the recommendations found in the Report of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), 1996, along with subsequent Edition updates. For a complete list of sources, call 313-664-8821. As is the case with the Clinical Practice Guidelines, they recommend only those procedures that are well supported in the medical literature. They are reviewed and updated bi-annually, as needed.
