Did You Know That...
an estimated 98,000 people die every year from medical mistakes that could have been prevented. That's more than the number of people who die in car accidents, from AIDs, and breast cancer each year.
Source: Institute of Medicine, 1999 | What HAP Is Doing To Help HAP is always working closely with its doctors, hospitals, and other health care partners like its drugstores, to make sure you and your loved ones get the right care, at the right time, by the right healthcare provider.
Some examples:
- HAP develops a yearly Quality Program and Work plan that describes all of the member quality and safety goals for the year.
- HAP works with other partners like GM to develop new care programs for diseases like diabetes to help their employees and our members stay healthy.
- HAP provides you with tips on how to get safe care and toolkits to help
you ask the doctor questions.
HAP develops new tools for its doctors to use like the computer program called ePrescribing that helps doctors select the best medicine for you.
Don't Forget! Getting safe care for you and your loved ones is your business too. Be an active partner in your own care by speaking up and asking questions of your doctor, pharmacist, and other caregivers, when needed. Don't leave until you have all of your questions answered.
