Seniors Can Splash Their Way to Better Health with HAP
HAP will keep mothers and seniors healthy and cool again this summer by sponsoring water aerobics classes in throughout southeast Michigan. The Senior Splash Bash and Moms in Motion classes, taught by certified instructors are free and open to the general public.
This year marks the third summer season for HAPs free water aerobics classes. The program was launched in 2005 in four Detroit locations. HAP expanded the program in 2006 due to overwhelming popularity.
Senior Splash Bash classes are designed to keep seniors active and healthy, while the Moms in Motion classes are geared toward mothers who want to get in good enough shape to keep with the kids - with energy left to take care of themselves.
Water aerobics can encompass all of the components of fitness: muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular fitness, and flexibility. Water exercise can be ideal for just about anyone because the buoyancy of the water reduces the stress on joints, bones and muscles. And because water offers at least 12 times the resistance of air, water aerobics can burn calories more efficiently than traditional workouts.
Moms in Motion and Senior Splash Bash classes will begin in June 2007. For a list of class locations and times, please visit http://www.hap.org/healthy_living/water_aerobics.php.
