HAP Offers Health Coverage for Autoworkers Impacted by Buyouts

“We’ve received inquiries from autoworkers, many of whom have had HAP coverage for more than 30 years and didn’t want to lose it. This health coverage was created with their needs in mind so that these workers can continue their HMO coverage and stay with their same physicians and hospitals.”
Jamie Spriet, HAP Vice President, Business Development

HAP now offers a Health Coverage Continuation Plan created especially for salaried and hourly employees who have lost their health care benefits due to buyouts from automotive companies and had the option to choose HAP HMO from their employer.
An alternative to COBRA
The Health Coverage Continuation Plan is an alternative to COBRA coverage. COBRA is available for up to 18 months from the termination date of employment. Unlike COBRA, people who select the Health Coverage Continuation plan can stay on the plan until they become eligible for Medicare. Dependent children can be covered until age 25.

The HMO plan includes:
- routine care
- preventive care
- prescription drug coverage
- worldwide emergency coverage
- eye and hearing exams
- wellness and chronic care programs
- all with reasonable out-of-pocket costs
- a competitive monthly premium payment
- upfront deductible and copayments apply
- access to HAP’s extensive HMO provider network with more than 8,500 providers and 52 hospitals in southeast Michigan
